Pomellato's Dodo Charms

With the holidays approaching fast many people have been asking me what is the big jewelry gift for the holidays this year, for anyone living in the NYC area, I have your answer. Available only within our New York Saks Fifth Avenue store, Dodo charms are as precious as they are discerning. Founded in 1995, Dodo by Pomellato set out with explicit instructions to donate a portion of the collection's annual salesto the World Wildlife Fund in Italy, which leads efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats throughout the world.  The collection consists of silver, gold and diamond charms each with it's own unique meaning & message. According to Pomellato, it's "original charm and first symbol of the series the extinct DoDo bird of Mauritius is a constant reminder of the Italian Jeweler's dedication to protecting the world's endangered species". The Dodo, "I am your Dodo" ...

Each charm pocesses a message and symbol to fit every personality but can also be made with your own unique touch, you will put them together as a bracelet or a necklace, you can add beads or different colored string and no one will have the same design as you. Starting at $145, these cute little treasures are sure to light up any good friend & significant other's face this holiday season...

The diamonds are amazing of course, but so too are the gold. I honestly love nearly each and every design with the few exceptions being due to an inability to quickly discern which animals the flat-silhouettes represent. If I had to choose just a few, my list would definitely include the Lion "Courage", the Owl " I love the night", the fox "no hunting" and the Sea Turtle "Together we'll go far"...

n.b. You won't find Dodo listed or sold anywhere on Saks.com, but the Jewelry Department has them all (even the diamond versions :)

Calvin Klein Spring 2010

The Calvin Klein spring 2010 sportswear collection presented a causal washed out take on spring 2010. The 80's inspired ultra dyed white denims, khaki skirts, and tie dye body contouring dresses are given a modern, seductive and functional look for everyday stable pieces. With the current economy, fashion has returned to classics, stable pieces in neutrals with simple yet adorning elements of detail, pieces that you'll keep in your wardrobe forever. Calvin Klein has answered to this criteria with his spring 2010 collection. The pieces include the washed out 80's denim in modern silhouettes of the skinny or boyfriend for women and straight leg for men with added zippers and rivets.

The flowing seductive and tailored cuts with sometimes plunging necks of the button down white shirts give a new take on this classic. The shades of gray on the women's blazers, body hugging skirts and washed out gray tones of the men's suits are a perfect compliment to the neutral color palette. While each piece looks rather simple it's difficult (to take your eyes off any) discount any single piece within the collection, the delicate draping and sophisticated loose tailoring are so incredibly stunning. My favorite piece is the plunging neck white button down, paired with a light gray denim skirt ( photo below). Suffice to say, I look forward to experiencing the entire collection first hand at Saks next spring.

Garrard @ Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks Fifth Avenue has partnered with the oldest jeweler in the world, Garrard (established in 1785 to design mostly to royalty). Saks is the first US department store to carry this line in a 108 sq. ft boutique inspired by their london store. The new Garrard boutique at Saks houses the new collection by Georgina Chapman, designer of Marchesa alongside Stephen Webster well known jewelry designer as the creative director. Her collection for Garrard features design elements such as feathers, tassels and drapery inspired from her clothing line.

It is a rare oportunity to be the first US store to carry such an established, exquisite line and I am honored to be a part of it. Being part of the Saks fine jewelry buying team gave me an opportunity to visit the downtown Garrard showroom for the Georgina Chapman for Garrard launch party. The showroom was decorated to reflect the elements of the jewelry designs; large peacocks and birds with long feathered tails, the distinct black and white color palette with pops of statement color. The jewelry was amazing and Georgina Chapman looked stunning in her own designs a royal blue dress and amazing blue sapphire & diamond bird necklace and matching ring. The new boutique and jewelry line are already getting a lot of press. I think Garrard being so limited in the states is exactly what Saks needs to remain at the forefront of fashion.
